Wilbo Thinks He Knows Something About Fine Art

Hello J;

There's nothing more fun than going to the well of creativity at the moment of first genius; so I'll crawl this city and every city within traveling range to find new artists. By the time an artist is drawing Steve Wynn's attention, the artist has less interest to me. I hate to abase and supine myself before a painting I can't visit whenever I want.

I've often thought it would be a great theme party to host an artist in ones home for a month, with a great opening party as a kicker. The artist would want assurance of security, professional handling, and a certain percentage of sales. I saw this done in Port Huron, at a woman's house, and people who had bought paintings brought them back for an informal retrospective. The daughters in the group who organized the party made white wine sangria and finger sandwiches. (We could have E come and sing, J could do a fantastic catalog, and you could recite your verse !)

Over Thanksgiving, I discovered a commercial building for sale in a small town named Vernon. The two storefronts and two upper flats had undergone stabilization and renovation, but instead of opening it as a restaurant as planned, the 19th century building hit the market at 65 K. I am still dealing with fantasies about that building; Yoga studio on one side, art gallery and instructional space on the other, country flat above, and rental studio space beside it. With a 450 dollar a month note, it gives a guy a low breakeven point. Thanks for sending this my way. By the way, the "stock exchange" for art sales is artprice.com. Worth checking out; but far too few Detroit names are listed there.

Wilbo
