He's Been on Edge for Eons - A Detroit Urban Pioneer

There's a creative force stored in the ruins of Detroit. Ruins is too strong a word because the warehouses and factories of Detroit were built strong in the middle Twentieth Century. It's a major undertaking to tear an old factory building down without the aid of plenty of dynamite. I remember watching a crew tear down the DeSoto plant at Wyoming and McGraw on the Dearborn side of Detroit, and men with welding torches had to cut the reinforcing rods in the round support columns, a time-consuming task.

Since these buildings near the old General Motors headquarters are here to stay, men and woman are teaming up with art groups, rock groups and governmental forces to film movies in their chambers, hold parties in their open, raw spaces and carve out living quarters in their cavernous galleys. Edge, an artist and philosopher who makes his home in a warehouse loft is directing much of the action. Filming movies and programming parties and opening theatres and changing display windows into art galleries are his methods. Don't worry, there's hundreds of these durable buildings; one or two are lost to fire and demolition from time to time, but the supply will last into the 22nd Century. Why not check out an Edgewise party or an EON party at CAID so you can tie into the action? He's picking out a raw space for you.
