@WanderingWilbo spends an interesting evening on Fulton in Grand Rapids, MI.

One day, the Thailand American community discovered Grand Rapids MI.
Last winter, a Thai restaraunt popped up across the way from the Grand
Rapids Art Museum. The Dog Story moved closed to One Trick Pony and
St. Cecilia's Music Center, and a large Thai restaurant opened up two
spaces south. I had the pleasure of eating the tonight, and I'm still
so astounded by the novelty of Thai in Grand Rapids,z all I order is
Chicken Masaman Curry. I believe there's one over towards eastside on
Wealthy. Nothing better than parking the car and dining the catching a
show next door at the Dog Store Theater. During intermission, I picked
up a quick order of egg rolls at the Chinese buffet to the north of
Dog Story Theater. I flew solo tonight. Last night, I was out with a
woman who knew everyone at the art galleries. Tonight, I wanted to
make the rounds around town at my own pace. After The Merry Wives of
Windsor at the Dog Story Theater, I dropped by One Trick Pony, but the
place seemed really, really date-y and that's enough to drain all life
and vibe out of a club. So I walked over to the Cottage Bar, and while
it didn't seem like a couples only resort, it struck me as clique
country. Bring your own peeps, pack them four to a booth, pretend
you're not in a bar and expect those peeps entertain you for an entire
night. I not sure what it is that makes a joint wide open, but I
love it when one can mix and mingle, strike up conversations, listen
to people talk about themselves. I wanted a beer, so I grabbed a perch
at the art deco mahogany bar and ordered a Bell's Porter. People have
been coming in from the Juice Ball over at the J.W. Marriott, where
about a thousand people showed up. Buzz here is not everyone got the
Juice Ball memo.

Maybe I miss the bonhomie of Royal Oak, Michigan, with twenty bars and
five coffeehouses all within easy walking distance made every night an
anything could happen kind of night.

Good choice with the Bell's Porter. Introduced my Bro-N-Law to Bell's Porter this weekend while he's visiting Michigan from Dallas. He follows a beer blog of the Flying Saucer brewery in Dallas, so he took a pic of the bottle to post. I also had him sample New Holland Brewery's Dragons Milk stout. Both are favorites of mine...and now favorites of his also.
