I think that's an English sparrow I am hearing. When spring is
established, I love to visit landing on Muskegon River and listen for
warblers at dusk. I like listening for warblers at dusk almost as much
as I love bird song in the morning. I pause for a moment for all to
find their copy of Alex Comfort's book. Why do you think birdwatching
endures. Romeo and Juliet came to understand bird song in the morning,
the only morning of their marriage, discussing if they were hearing
the lark at break of day arising singing hymns at heaven's gate or
just a nightsinging bird. The mockingbird I have swans and mallards and even eagles in my life as of late, and I
enjoy taking a gander over creek and marshy swale as I depart home
mornings. I am more conscious of a need to document my nature
experience, and I see where a better camera and recording equipment
could be helpful. I remember sitting in a row boat on Euler Lake,
Burns Township, Michigan, and astounded by the choiring birds, I wrote
a poem on looseleaf paper. My papers written in college are lost and
so most of the writings of my twenties. Cool dry spaces one can
control forever are hard to afford. I wonder what a good cellphone
recording of this summer bird chirparee would sound like. I see I'll
be looking for a good wild lake and a row boat soon. There's open water on Lake Muskegon near where the river flows into
the lake, the delta near North Muskegon. I saw ice shanties and
fishermen on good lake ice nearer the channel. Since there's open
water, it might be time to look for coots, a favorite of mine.
