On a June Sunday in Late Spring, Wilbo Takes to the Water and Explores a Newly Built Freeway.

The sheer pleasure of going out to sail on Lake Muskegon, learning how to crew, made this late spring afternoon a great memory. Seeing the Lake Express high speed catamaran set forth for Milwaukee stirred my heart. Then the Pearl Mist, a luxury cruise ship, departed Muskegon for its nine day itinerary toward Toronto. The Pearl Mist is off to the Straits of Mackinaw and Mackinaw Island, two places that recall happy summers to my mind. How often can summer days be made delightful by seeing two great ships go forth from the perspective of the water? This summer, these great ships shall almost cross paths on ten different days.

Michigan 231 is an odd freeway. It's job is to take pressure off US-31 through Grand Haven and provide another crossing of the Grand River. It goes from Lake Michigan Drive to Nunica with perhaps one intersection? Did the planning want to choke development along the route? It's hardly a ring road around the trio towns of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg because it is a straight road without much bending. Odd. Let's see what it looks like in daylight.
