Worry not! I'm fine. A man walked into Cafe Kubal in the Hotel Marriott and requested an ambulance. The barista understood and said with kindness and compassion, "Yes, but let me serve this customer first". I was looking for my good deed for the day. I could really use a Mitzpah, right. So I offered to help him out and patted the seat next to me.
He carried his belongings in a reusable shopping bag, starting to accumulate blue fabric pills from wear. He needed a cane.
"So. Do you know the number I am supposed to call"?
"No, someone always dials it for me. I need to go to the hospital. My knee is hurting me".
Fine, but I felt uncomfortable calling 911 on my phone, making me accountable for the call.
I asked, "Might I call you an #Uber"?
"What's an Uber"?
"It's like a Taxi, but better".
"Will I have to pay"?
"It's on me".
"So it's free"?
"To you, yes. Do you want Upstate"?
"I go to Saint Joe's"
I punched in the emergency room at Saint Joe's. Tigran picked up the call, two minutes away.
"Will you help me into the car? The ambulance driver helps me into the ambulance".
"Of course".
"Take my hand. Take my bag".
"Sure".
Tigran opened wide the back door and my guest got into the #VolkswagonJetta without too much difficulty. He took his belongings onto his lap. I saw his blanket for sleeping outside. I saw a toiletries kit someone had given him.
"Tigran, there will be people to help him once you reach the emergency room. Thanks for your help".
Tigran nodded. He drove off.
A few minutes later, a popup notified me that Tigran had reached Saint Joseph and had completed the mission. I finished my coffee, Mitzpah under my belt.
Is it still a Mitzpah if I share the story on Social Media?
No matter what, call this a #RandomActOfUber. (c)
