The Shell gas station stands next door to Goober's Doughnuts and the bakers working late night visit to buy coffee and chat with the Shell clerk. I met one of the bakers and she brought up poetry in our conversation. It's rare when a love of poetry shows up in a chat; even more singular when a woman confesses to have read most poems by Randall Jarell. Frost lovers are garden variety. Jarell details devotees are rarely found outside the ivory tower. Bakers have affinities, and often times poetry is one of them. Never forget that Cyrano by Rostand began in a bakery
