I have given my daughter several items since I picked her up. She is prettier than a summer's day today, and a day when rough winds are not messing up the evening. I gave her a brown bag, a blueberry muffin from L.A Cafe. I gave her two packages of Madelines from Starbucks. I also gave her two free drink coupons from Starbucks, mailed to me when I complained through the corporate website. She is reading Poetry Magazine right now, a copy I will allow her to keep. It's true. Deadly Tedly is in town, playing the DTE Energy Music Theater. I wouldn't take my daughter to an outdoor concert there because of my experience at the Tom Petty concert back in 1997. I was up on the ridge and the aroma, the very smoke of reefer made me wonder if I were in a burning barn. I have explained that the Motor City Madman doesn't touch drugs or alcohol; however, his fans follow his suit not at all. Nugent has a song about Fred Bear I adore. I like it more than Stranglehold or the Great White Buffalo. You see, driving up to Camp Tapico, our route always passed the Fred Bear museum, and that's where Bear manufactured hunting bows too, until operations moved out of Grayling. We were too busy and rushed to stop. But he promised me to buy me a Fred Bear bow if I completed an archery merit badge. I did. I don't think the bow he gave me bore the Bear brand, but it was my bow. Fred Bear is no longer with us, but Nugent thinks of him each time he's out giving "deer the blade". This is a kind of immortality that Nugent has conferred upon Bear. The song ends with Bear, recorded, praising the outdoor life. From that, I can judge his character, hearing it in Bear's voice. Well, Mr. Intensities in Ten Cities, I almost broke down in front of my daughter because of your song. Thanks. Let me buy your a Vernors sometime. Next time I'm walking in the woods, imagining ways to seek upgrade, I'll think of Bear, my Dad and hum your tune.
