Wilbo Thinks He Knows Something About Theatre: Theatre of the Medical Humanities

Tuesday, July 05, 2005 5:27 PM

C,

It was nice to see D and you over at da Beanery.

I've always thought a theatre that presented plays with a medical humanities tie-in could work. There's quite a bank of plays; Yale has a program in Medical Humanities.

This idea came to mind whilst watching Goodnight Mother at the Ant. The daughter is clinically depressed, suicidal, and the actress Michelle Murphy presented the character brilliantly. Unfortunately, none of the psychologists, doctors or psychologists in training at Detroit universities got to meet Michelle Murphy as the daughter during their grand rounds, or knew to come to the play.

Of course, medicine has funding, and people who are interested in any channel to reach doctors, so it might be able to work.

Forgive me if I wasn't my happy go-lucky self. Finding a suitable job in Detroit has proven a less than easy task. Working with R at the Planet Ant Film Festival was great; nitty gritty sweaty work that had some nice results.

Yours, Wilbo
