@WanderingWilbo celebrates tradition of all night diners, dining at Roundezvous, Grand Haven MI.

I drove to my neighborhood all night diner, and a flat screen
television behind the counter was out. I could see this through one of
the big windows. A man driving out of the Edgewater's Grill had a
dismayed face, grimace of the lost. One can get through the night with
a big screen TV and an endless cup of coffee. I had feared the worst.
The grill had just thrown up its hands at end of season, but a sign on
door gave hope. Winter hours had begun and Mondays, doors to close at
Ten at night. Nightowls ordering coffee and watching Anderson Cooper
didn't justify a cook and a waitress and an unlocked door. There's
only two alternatives on the West Michigan, the Rendezvous in Grand
Haven and the IHOP in Holland. The Rendezvous is rumored to be one of
the cleanest kitchens in town, judged by health department inspection.
The waitresses are all single moms and seem happy to welcome one back.
The back room is no longer filled with smoke nor crowded with smoking
folk. It's empty all nights but weekend nights. .
