This is what it looks like to be a cultured kid in Kalamazoo.

5:00 PM on Saturday, 10/30/2010, the Kalamazoo Institute of the Arts
had closed for the day and Sleepy Hollow at the Kalamazoo Civic
Auditorium had just reached intermission. I was snapping pictures of
the excellent donor acknowledgement tiles before the doors, and two
boys were blowing off steam playing hopscotch on the tiles. Dad, I
think, was wearing a velvet smoking jacket. Kids in Kalamazoo have it
good when it comes to culture. The Kalamazoo Promise has college costs
covered. The town has two major colleges, a community college and a
full crown of cultural gems. Maybe that's why this young man is so
happy?
