Festivus might be one of Jerry Seinfeld's greatest contributions to
Western culture. No matter your creed, we now turn to our Festivals
and our feasting, and it doesn't matter why as long as you are
celebrating with family & friends. Tonight, I am taking the Sherman
street bus uptown to the Frauenthal Theater to see the newest Muskegon
Civic Theater production. I think I'm going to cry when I see how
beautifully this 80 year old building is decorated for the season,
halls decked and facades alighted. I'm a little misty right now. What
happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. During a show, what happens outside
the Frauenthal Theater stays outside it. This is the time of year when
I look toward January, named for Two Headed Janus, the Greek Deity
who looks forward and back, mostly to see if the IRS is coming. I have
vacations scheduled, dinner parties to attend and a job that is
tangible, awaiting me with challenges and rewards. I am the luckiest
man in Muskegon, a fortunate man in a metropolis wher many bless their
fortune. It's a town where there is no top and many fight to see that
there is no bottom for all. Speaking about that league of do-gooders,
I've got their back through payroll deduction, enrolled for the second
year as a dollar a day contributor to United Way. Now I need to go
find a Salvation Army kettle. Hope it has a brass band performing.
Festivus is declared.
