Handsome Henry's on Henry claims to celebrate the culinary & visual arts. Let's see about that.

There's no question that Hoby Thrasher's newest restaurant in the Muskegon market has claims to culinary achievement. You can see Hoby on the floor making sure all details are perfect. Hoby is a formidable force in the Muskegon Restaurant market; he's always thrashing the competition. I have noticed many wonderful visual elements in his funky, eclectic interior. However, not one of his wall hangings strike the note of original and regional, and there's plenty of artists connected to the Muskegon Museum of Art, White River Gallery or the Uptown Gallery who can help rectify that huge deficiency. Worst of all are the three framed images of Andy Warhol, bearing Warhol's famous and perhaps shop worn quotes. The outdoor patio borders the unusually quiet business corridor of Henry Street and even features a rocky pool where a fountain could work. The red streamed faucet draining into a barrel by the bar has seemingly no source, a staple of county fairs, but a sculpted fountain might work better outside when the weather warms. In fact, the outdoor patio cries for Muskegon made Aneias wrought steel furniture, made right by Red Lotus Gallery, and totemic sculptures from Lee Brown and Farr Coston. I am glad the visual arts theme has entered the mix at Handsome Henry's. Now let's fill it out with local art from local artists.
