I saw a guy and his son cutting wood for bird feeders. He makes them in shape of animals, such as deer and owls. He touches them up with blowtorch burns and varnish. It is a side business for the convenience and liquor story, now a family business. In the 1970s, it was run by a fellow named Harry. Many people made a big deal about Harry's Jewish lineage. I remember my mom's best friend often arranged cash advances from Harry, dropping off a postdated check written for a premium amount. I once had a talk with him, and he explained how he offered gasoline as a service. He couldn't buy it at a volume discount. It's been a long time since the pumps were remove. The store still has an apartment in back, as simple as an old motel.
