I'm very impressed I can find wild boar sausage anywhere in Muskegon, but that place is Verdonis. It is sourced from Texas boars, and Texas is over-run with boar. If Asian Carp can be a smoked delicacy, hoisted by nets out of the Illinois river, why shouldn't Texans make sausage from European swine gone wild in the grasslands? I am writing as I await my Skee Town woodfired pizza pie. The deli at Olivia's, inside Verdonis, is exquisite and makes me think about Papa Joe's in Birmingham Michigan. I only wish it were a Papa Joe's where 20 kinds of olives are sold at the olive bar. Speaking about olives, at the Cheese Lady in downtown Muskegon, the woman who brought cheese to Tedx has brought an olive oil tasting bar to Muskegon. There is one located in Saugatuck, but I believe that bar charges a tasting fee. Adding to the excitement, the establishment has tasting pots for different varieties of balsamic vinegar. So, in our little shell shocked downtown, one can taste cheese, olive oil and balsamico in one stop. How can that be true. Pinch me I must be dreaming.
Speaking about dreaming, my Skew Town pie has emerged from the woodfired oven. This fancy meat lovers pizza doesn't spare the charcuterie.
