Nothing quite explains Muskegon County better than Jack's Corner Store. Muskegon Township MI, Mile 12321.

Plenty of inexpensive, comfortable but unflattering clothing hangs from walls above the coolers. Prices are good, whole pork loins for a bit more than a twenty. So much merchandise, from peanuts to peas to canned meat to canning supplies, Jack's probably has what one needs. I can't put my finger on why I can imagine a quiet voice muttering, "survive survive survive", but that cue exists. Maybe it is the low ceilings for retail with intense lights that make shadows impossible, the short shelves half as high as Walmart or Meijer shelves. Shoplifting is fought by a short wall at the entrance and security cameras patrolling over the shadowless glare.
